Scrolling

As a first step to exploring the Internet, you'll need to know how to get around within a single web page. Scrolling is one way to do this.

You will need to use scrolling to read most pages in this tutorial, on Telecom’s web site and on the Internet. If you’re new to computers generally here’s a few tips on scrolling.

ScrollingWe’ll use the snap-shot screen to show you how things work throughout this tutorial. Right now you can see scrolling in action. (Note: the scroll bars on your computer may look slightly different.)

Here’s how it works: the bar on the right side of your screen with the single up and down arrow at the top and bottom is called the scroll bar.

You can use the scroll bar to move up and down by:

  • Clicking on the top and bottom arrows (bottom to go down the page, top to go back up)
  • Clicking on the light coloured area you can see between the arrows, above and below the scroll bar box
  • Clicking on the scroll bar box and holding the mouse key down (good for long pages).

Try these moves now using the actual scroll bar on the far right of your screen – we promise you’ll get hooked!

SCOLL DOWN NOW!

KEEP GOING!

NEARLY THERE!

JUST A LITTLE BIT MORE…

WELL DONE!

Time for your first refreshment stop – there will be a couple more of these along the way.

Click the "next" tab when you’ve finished munching.
